Refractive Eye Surgery now available at
The Straits Eye Centre, Camden Medical Centre.
Small Incision Lenticule Extraction
SMILE is a flap-free laser vision correction procedure that gently reshapes the cornea through a single, 2mm micro-incision. With minimal disruption to the eye’s surface, it promotes rapid recovery and long-term visual clarity.
Is SMILE for Your Eyes?
Who Can Benefit from Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE)

Mild to Moderate Myopia
SMILE is suitable for those with mild to moderate short sightedness (up to -10.00 diopters) and a stable prescription for at least 1 year.

Active
Lifestyle?
SMILE is flap-free procedure , reducing the risk of flap-related complications, ideal for those involved in contact sports and outdoor activities.

No Existing Eye Conditions
SMILE is typically recommended for individuals with no other existing eye conditions. Your suitability will be assessed during consultation.
What Happens During a SMILE Procedure?
A Precise Laser Technique That Reshapes Vision
Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) uses a femtosecond laser to create a thin lenticule (a disc-shaped layer of tissue) within the cornea. This lenticule is then removed through a small 2 mm incision, with no corneal flap created.
By reshaping the cornea, SMILE corrects myopia and mild astigmatism. The small incision approach preserves more corneal nerves, which may support quicker recovery and a lower risk of post-operative dryness as compared to conventional LASIK. As one of the newer techniques in refractive surgery, SMILE is often chosen by patients seeking a flapless and minimally invasive alternative to LASIK.
