The ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is intended to remain in the eye long term, providing stable vision correction. Unlike procedures that reshape the cornea, ICL is additive and does not permanently alter the eye's structure. If needed, the lens can be removed or replaced under the care of your ophthalmologist.

The procedure is typically well-tolerated and performed under local anaesthesia. Patients may feel mild pressure or brief light sensations during the surgery. Any post-operative discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived.

Many patients are able to return to desk-based activities within one to two days. Vision generally improves in the early recovery period, though mild fluctuations and light sensitivity may occur. Stabilisation varies between individuals and is closely monitored during follow-up visits.

Yes. Toric ICL lenses are available to address both myopia and regular astigmatism. Your ophthalmologist will assess your prescription and ocular health to determine if a toric model is appropriate.

As with any surgical procedure, potential risks exist. These may include glare, halos, elevated intraocular pressure, or cataract formation over time. While uncommon, these risks are discussed in detail during your consultation, and comprehensive aftercare is provided to minimise complications.

In many cases, yes. Because ICL does not affect the corneal surface or nerves, it may be considered for patients with dry eye symptoms who are not ideal candidates for corneal refractive surgery.

ICL is generally classified as an elective vision correction procedure and is not Medisave-claimable in most cases. Some private insurance plans may offer limited reimbursement. Our team will guide you through available financial options and eligibility during your consultation.

You will require someone to accompany you home on the day of surgery. Your ophthalmologist will advise when driving may be resumed, typically after the initial post-operative review confirms sufficient visual function.

For the first week, avoid rubbing your eyes, swimming, strenuous physical activity, or exposure to dusty environments. Use prescribed eye drops as directed, and follow all post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon.
